The Lies of Suicide (Season 2 Episode 16)

The Lies of Suicide. What does the Bible say about suicide? Is it sin? Can someone who takes his own life be a Christian? Will he or she still go to heaven?

In this episode of the Straight Truth Podcast, Dr. Richard Caldwell and special guest Stuart Sanders explain that, in God’s eyes, the act of suicide is nothing short of murder. It’s not the fruit of a life that submits to God; rather, it’s what happens when one allows himself to listen to the hateful lies of Satan. Dr. Caldwell and Stuart Sanders discuss how even genuine Christians have moments of failure; many deal with depression, and some may even resort to taking their own lives. When trying to answer the question about whether or not the individual is in heaven, it’s important to look at the person’s life as a whole, rather than just at one moment of failure.

So how can we counsel someone who is considering suicide? What hope do we have to give? How do we comfort someone who has lost a loved one in this way? These questions and more are addressed in this episode of the Straight Truth Podcast, as Dr. Richard Caldwell and Stuart Sanders take us to God’s Word.

  1. I've tried suicide 2 or 3 times, came really close, but God was there to save me, the first time I thought about it for a while, this last time in July, it was a spur of the moment thing , a reaction to a bad argument where the other person was drunk, I am glad that the ambulance got here in time to revive me, but it was just in that moment I couldn't take it anymore, I asked God to forgive me after I took a bottle of pills before I drifted off! So did he forgive me?
